Abstract

This study aimed to assess the implementation of RA 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act) as a basis for the creation of programs, activities and projects that will intensify its implementation within the different barangays in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, and by harnessing the concrete participation/involvement of educational institutions relative thereto. The study used a descriptive-correlational method and collected data through a duly validated questionnaire. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. A great percentage of the total number of respondents are 43-47 years old, married and belong to a religious group called Iglesia-ni-Cristo and that majority of them is female. As a result, RA 9262 is implemented in Candon City, with Medical Services as the highest and Socio-Economic Services as the lowest. The profile of the respondents on age, sex, civil status and religious affiliation is significantly related to their perception on the extent of implementation of RA 9262 in Candon City, Ilocos Sur, along factors on medical services, socio-economic services, protection and security and intervention programs. Consequently, an orientation or seminar maybe considered to be conducted by the respondent barangays with most of the young adult and old age as beneficiaries, which may include mostly male, who are single, separated, widow/widower and consider even those who belong to other religious sect. Another is to conduct a training/seminar focusing on socio-economic services exclusive for VAWC victims and inviting representatives from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) as speaker/s, and the barangay officials as beneficiaries. To consider intensifying in inviting as participants during the barangay assembly, all the residents of the barangay, regardless of age, sex civil status and religious affiliation and that further study maybe conducted relative to the effectiveness of implementation of RA 9262 or anything alike.
