Abstract

This study aimed to assess the compliance on the basic health and safety protocols of boarding houses, as a basis for the creation of programs and projects that will enhance the condition of the student boarders, and to concrete the participation/involvement of educational institutions relative thereto. The study used a descriptive-correlational method and collected data through a duly validated questionnaire. The quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Majority of the student respondents are female and a great percentage were boarders for only a year. A great majority of the owner/operator respondents are college graduates/college level and owners/operators only for eight (8) years or more. As a result, the boarding houses are very compliant with Other Boarder’s Concern as the highest but Safety and Security as the lowest. The profile of the student boarders on sex is inversely significant to the Number of Bedrooms and Spaces while significantly related with Other Boarder’s Concern. The profile number of years as boarder as well is significantly related to Environmental and Health Condition and Community Involvement. On the other hand, the respondent boarding house owner/operator is significantly related to Environmental Condition, Number of Bedrooms and Spaces, Community Involvement, Special Services and Other Boarder’s Concern. Consequently, a separate annual general meeting of owners/operators and boarders in the barangay is proposed, with the presence of educational institutions’ representative/s and consider creating barangay ordinance to further intensify the protection, safety and security of the student boarders.
