Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the uses, effects, and challenges of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching Filipino. It aimed to enhance the integration of ICT into the teaching and learning process. Based on the findings, ICT is used by teachers to motivate students, facilitate lesson discussions, and conduct assessments. It was discovered that ICT has a significant impact in capturing learners’ attention and making lessons easier to understand. It also helps lighten teachers’ tasks inside the classroom. However, the common challenges for teachers include limited technical knowledge, internet issues, and a lack of time for lesson preparation. From these results, the following conclusions were drawn: ICT can be applied throughout the entire teaching and learning process; its use in teaching Filipino supports student learning; and technical knowledge, internet access, and sufficient time are essential in teaching with ICT. Hence, teachers should be creative in teaching language and literature through ICT; they should continue exploring various applications of ICT in teaching; attend seminar-workshops or ICT sessions should be conducted to provide enrichment, updating, and follow-up on teachers’ knowledge and skills; and a proposed seminar-workshop design may be implemented and further developed to improve teachers’ competence in using ICT in their teaching practice.
