Abstract

This study investigates the challenges and factors encountered by Bachelor of Arts in Filipino (BAFIL) students in conducting research, as well as the strategies and interventions that may address these difficulties. Using a descriptive qualitative design, the research gathered data through semi-structured interviews with 55 third-year BAFIL students at Benguet State University, La Trinidad Main Campus. Findings revealed that students face multiple challenges, including difficulties in selecting research topics, lack of references, limited exposure to research, weak problem formulation, inadequate data analysis skills, insufficient electronic resources, and financial constraints. To cope with these issues, students employed strategies such as consulting teachers, reading available materials, and engaging in collaborative work. The study underscores the importance of strengthening research instruction within the BAFIL curriculum to enhance students’ competence in data gathering, analysis, and interpretation. The results highlight the need for targeted interventions that will not only improve research skills but also motivate students to value research as a vital academic and professional undertaking.
