Abstract

This study assessed the internship performance of Bachelor of Arts in Filipino (BAFL) students at Benguet State University to inform the enhancement of a Pre-Internship Training Program. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, using a descriptive research design, was employed in this study. The research examined the trainees’ job performance in five areas: personal characteristics, attitude towards the job, job performance, adherence to company policies, and competence. Results revealed an overall outstanding rating in all five categories, with job performance receiving the highest scores, while communication skills emerged as an area needing improvement. Qualitative findings, drawn from student reflections and portfolios, identified key successes, including enhanced skills in layout design, research, facilitation and documentation, proofreading, translation, and community engagement. However, challenges included limited background knowledge and insufficient practical experience in real-world office tasks. These insights emphasize the need for curriculum improvements and the implementation of targeted pre-deployment training. The study recommends strengthening practical components of the BAFL curriculum and creating a comprehensive internship guide to better align academic preparation with workplace demands.
