Abstract
This study aimed to determine the instructional materials used by teachers teaching MTB-MLE and to emphasize how these materials contribute to students' understanding and learning. It also provided a basis for developing a training plan for the creation of instructional materials. This study used a qualitative method. The participants consisted of eight third-grade teachers teaching MTB-MLE. A semi-structured in-depth interview was used to gather the instructional materials used by MTB-MLE teachers in the upland municipalities of Ilocos Sur. The analysis revealed three main themes regarding the instructional materials used by teachers in teaching MTB-MLE: E-Instructional Materials, Charts/Cards and Pictures, and the Teacher. Three themes also emerged on how instructional materials contribute to students' understanding and learning in MTB-MLE: faster understanding and active classroom participation, meaningful teaching, and expanded knowledge and vocabulary. Based on the analyzed data, the following conclusions were drawn: 1. the use of e-instructional materials is commonly used by teachers in teaching MTB-MLE; 2. the use of instructional materials has a positive effect on the teaching and learning of students; and 3. the developed training plan for the creation of instructional materials significantly contributed to improving teaching and learning. From the results of the study, the following recommendations were formulated: 1. continue using various instructional materials in teaching and learning MTB-MLE; 2. continue using instructional materials to improve the teaching and learning of students; and 3. it is recommended to implement the training plan for the creation of instructional materials to further improve teaching and learning.
